The term 3PL, or third party
logistics, was first used in the early 1970’s to identify companies who
interacted between vendors and ‘handed off’ the shipment to rail
carriers. Those intermediaries or third parties to the contractual bill
of lading became known as 3PL’s. The definition has increased in scope
since that time to include most any company doing some kind of logistics
work for a customer.
The council of supply chain management defines a third party logistics
provider as someone who ‘provides multiple logistic services for use by
customers. Among the services provided are transportation, warehousing,
cross-docking, inventory management, packaging and freight forwarding.
At Freight Management Systems we specialize in routing freight,
invoicing, trouble shooting, volume, and truckload services, trade show
shipping and more. Our job is to take the ‘freight burden’ from our
customers and save them money in the process. We try to make it as simple
as you telling you vendor to:"Call
Freight Management Systems for Routing"
